BANGKOK, 3 February 2010 (NNT) – The Thai National Shippers’ Council (TNSC) has forecast that national exports this year will increase by more than 5.8 trillion THB with the expansion of many types of products.
According to TNSC President, Paiboon Ponsuwanna, the exports in 2010 will have a similar value to 2008 of about 5.8 trillion THB. Textiles and garments will increase by 11-12% while jewelry and accessories will expand by 18%. Meanwhile, electric appliances and electronic goods, processed foods and the automobile industry will increase by 14%, 5%, and 12%, respectively.
The president however noted that the political situation and appreciation of the baht currency were very important factors affecting the economy. He said the private sector wanted the public sector to stabilize the baht currency at around 34-35 THB/USD, utilize the free trade agreement and solve labor related problems including labor shortages and alien labor issues.
Mr Paiboon continued to say that entrepreneurs must upgrade the standards of domestic industries in line with international ones to push forward exports and meet the target.
