Thai car exports have surged, highest peak of domestic sales

BANGKOK, 20 January 2010 (NNT) – Thai car exports in December have grown by 23.86% at 53,600 units from last year’s 43,273 units.

According to Surapong Paisitpatpong, the spokesperson for the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), even though exports in December have decreased by 8.63% from the previous month, the export value has increase by 41.81% at 25 billion THB.

Meanwhile, there is a drop of 31.01% of car units when compared to 2008, indicating a 21.94% decline in export value.

The sales of cars, on the other hand, have made a record high in the past three years. Mr Surapong said that the domestic sales of cars have continuously increased for the fourth month, from surges in consumer confidence in the industrial sector. The government’s economic stimulus scheme has also contributed to the increasing consumer purchasing power, price of crops, positive tourism figures, and industrial exports, said the spokesperson.

Mr Surapong stated further that 10.91% production increase could be expected for the first three months of 2010 (January-March 2010) with 385,693 units.
