BANGKOK, 5 April 2010 (NNT) – Thailand’s National Road Safety Committee (NRSC) has declared the year 2011-2020 as a Decade of Road Safety.
The NRSC meeting today has planned to reduce the number of people killed in road accidents to be at a ratio of less than 10 in 100,000 people by the year 2020.
To progress with the plan, the NRSC are tasked to promote helmet wearing and anti drunk driving campaigns, to renovate risky and dangerous roads, to adjust driving behavior with speed control, to improve vehicle safety standards particularly with motorcycles, pickups, public transports and trucks, to develop driving capacity before getting driver license, to set up emergency medical services as well as to improve road safety management.
The framework for the plan of operation will be drawn up by NRSC to be submitted to the Cabinet for approval.
