BANGKOK, 29 June 2010 (NNT) – The Commerce Ministry is preparing to set up the Border Trade Promotion Center at five locations in the border provinces, in order to expand trade and investment with neighboring countries.
Deputy Permanent Secretary for Commerce Kritsada Piampongsan unveiled the Ministry’s policy on border trade that five centers for border trade promotion would be set up at different locations. The first center has been set up since early June at Sadao Custom House in Songkhla and the remaining four will be constructed in Si Sa Ket, Nong Khai, Tak and Sa Kaeo provinces. Each location will be allocated a budget of 300,000 THB as the operating expenditure at the site.
Trade volume at Sadao Custom House totaled 239.9 billion THB a year which is two-third of overall Thai border trades at 639.2 billion THB. The Commerce Ministry will sign an agreement with the Finance Ministry for the cooperation in eliminating barriers in Thai-Malaysian border trade. Meanwhile, the 1st Grand Thai-Malaysia Border Trade is to be held during 9-13 July at the Sadao Custom House, along with several activities organized to attract tourists as well as Thai and Malaysian businesspersons at the event.
