BANGKOK, 21 September 2009 (NNT) – The number of security officers has been reduced at Wang Daeng Intersection adjacent to Privy Council President General Prem Tinsulanonda’s residence.
Police and military personnel stationing at Wang Daeng Intersection near Si Sao Theves residence of General Prem have been dismissed after the peaceful dispersal of the mass rally of the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD). The anti-government group gathered last Saturday at the Equestrian Statue of King Chulalongkorn to commemorate the third anniversary of the 2006 coup d’etat that ousted ex-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The demonstration ended on the same day at around midnight as promised by the group’s core leaders.
Earlier, the government decided to invoke the Internal Security Act during 18 to 22 September to keep control of the UDD rally and to prevent third parties from inciting violence during the occasion.
