BANGKOK, 28 September 2009 (NNT) – The Senate Speaker agrees with the government’s idea to organize referendums on the constitutional amendment.
Senate Speaker Prasopsuk Boondet stated that nation’s citizens should be allowed to directly voice their opinions on the charter revision as any change to the constitution would have profound effects on the Kingdom. The Reconciliation Committee’s 6 amendments will be posted to separate referendums and will be individually eligible for inclusion or omission in a final revision.
The Senate will on Monday meet on an act to initiate the referendums which will be forwarded to the Constitutional Court. The process will take approximately 30 days.
