Mr Prajak insisted during the launching of the ‘Smoke-Free Bus Terminal’ project that the Transport Ministry had long emphasized on defining smoke-free zones and campaigned against secondhand smoking, particularly within transport terminals, in compliance with the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC). He said the ministry had instructed its subordinate agencies to uphold anti-smoking policies and publicize them to people in order to eradicate dangers from cigarette smoke throughout all bus terminals in the country.
Meanwhile, Mr Wuthichart Kalayanamitr, Chief Managing Director of the Transport Co, Ltd, said the company had been paying much attention to the smoking problem in bus terminals while efforts were being made to ensure a smoke-free environment as required by law. He indicated that the ‘Smoke-Free Bus Terminal’ project would be piloted at Mo Chit II Bus Terminal and Suphanburi Bus Terminal and would be expanded to other stations shortly.
