BANGKOK, 12 October 2009 (NNT)-The State Railway of Thailand labour union has called on the Ministry of Transport to expel State Railway of Thailand (SRT) Governor Yutthana Thapcharoen after the train derailment in Hua-Hin was concluded to have been caused by driver error.
The SRT labour union led by Mr Sawit Kaewwan has rallied at the Ministry of Transport to ask Minister of Transport Sopon Zarum to fire Mr Yutthana Thapcharoen due to performance dissatisfaction, lack of good governance and corruption. He was indicted by the Office of the Auditor-General for allowing the operation of the Sunday Market, causing the SRT to lose 58 million baht.
SRT Union Leader stated that the tragedy of the derailment of train passenger of route no. 84 was caused by driver error, killing 7 people and wounding many more. He said that this tragedy also affected the SRT’s image of Thailand and so the SRT governor needed to show his responsibility by resigning.
Mr Sawit Kaewwan insisted that the demonstration would not be called off until the results came with satisfaction and transparency.
