E-commerce in Thailand continues to grow

BANGKOK, 19 October 2009 (NNT) – The National Statistical Office (NSO) reveals that electronic commerce (E-Commerce) business in Thailand continues to grow.

Jirawan Boonperm, NSO Director revealed that e-commerce business in Thailand has started to grow and shown a promising development. The numbers of both entrepreneurs and customers increase, corresponding to the yearly increase of the number of internet users; 36% of which are in the central region, followed by the north and the south respectively.

As for the consumer’ behavior, it was found that 56% of e-commerce customers are male and most popular products are electronic devices and electrical appliances, while females generally buy fashion goods and health products.

The 23% of the customers’ age ranged from 25 – 29 years and hold a bachelor’s degree or higher. The average purchase amount is 6,000 baht or less.
