BANGKOK, 31 OCTOBER 2009 (NNT) – The Ministry of Defense voices readiness to host the year’s ASEAN Defense Minister’s Summit taking place between 2-4 November.
Defense Ministry Spokesperson, Colonel Thanathip Sawangsaeng, spoke on Saturday of the ministry’s preparations to host the ASEAN Defense Minister’s Summit in Bangkok. The event will be held at the Plaza Anthenee on Wireless road with defense ministers from all 10 ASEAN nations to attend. The talks will mostly center around security and social threats such as narcotics as well as natural disasters. The agenda for the summit will include creating unified approaches to utilizing military response so that it may be sufficient to the needs of the region.
Colonel Thanathip noted that no decrees will be needed for the upcoming talks unlike the more major gathering, the 15th ASEAN Summit, that was recently concluded in Cha-am and Hua Hin. The Defense Ministry expects good cooperation from all sides and is confident that the success of the summit will help Thailand regain the faith and belief of its regional partners.
