Suthep visits flood victims in South

BANGKOK, 9 November 2009 (NNT) – Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban has traveled to the inundated South on Monday to monitor the situation. Primary assistance has been provided for the affected residents.

The Deputy PM was accompanied by Defense Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan who is in charge of military aid for the region. Army Commander-in-Chief General Anupong Paochinda also traveled with them. Mr Suthep said Royal Thai Air Force airplanes had distributed survival kits to people in the flooded areas.

Mr Suthep added that the defense minister would report the flood situation in the South to the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday to seek further relief measures for the flood victims.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Health has dispatched teams of medical staff to distribute first aid medicines and provide medical services for the flood affected. More than 1,000 people suffered from flu and athlete’s foot but no serious illness has been reported.
