BANGKOK, 2 December 2009 (NNT) – The Board of the Government Lottery Office (GLO) will meet on 4 December to summarize data and information on the controversial online lottery scheme before forwarding it to the Prime Minister.
Deputy Finance Minister Pradit Phattaraprasit stated that the GLO Board would submit the data to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva who will make the final decision on the issue. He said the project would take approximately three months to be implemented if endorsed by the Prime Minister.
Mr Pradit added that the private sector still has legal rights to execute the project if it is rejected by the government.
Earlier, the Prime Minister instructed the Finance Ministry to review its plan to launch the sale of online lottery through the automatic ticket dispensing machines. He said the online lottery was rejected due to his objection to gambling. However, the Prime Minister said he would not intervene if the project is deemed to have met all legal requirements.
