BANGKOK, 8 December 2009 (NNT) – The Thai and Malaysian leaders agree to strengthen cooperation in many areas including solving the dual-citizenship problem.
After their discussions in Bangkok, the Thai and Malaysian Prime Ministers, Mr Abhisit Vejjajiva and Mr Najib Razak, declared that the two countries would step up cooperation in security, economy and education on the basis of mutual trust and respect. Any pending agreements between both countries would be sorted out while the dual-citizenship problem would be given high priority.
The Malaysian Prime Minister said that he considered the unrest in the far-south of Thailand an internal affair. However, the Malaysian government is willing to support solutions to the problem whenever requested. Prime Minister Abhisit added that the government would not hold negotiations with the insurgents because they must be prosecuted according to the law.
Malaysian Prime Minister, Najib Tun Razak, yesterday arrived in Thailand on the first official visit after his assumption to the post. Mr Najib, accompanied by the Thai Prime Minister, will visit the southern border province of Narathiwat tomorrow. The main objective of his visit is to strengthen the good relationship between the two countries.
