Visiting Myanmar, Malaysia will benefit Thai trade and investment

BANGKOK, 20 December 2009 (NNT) – Deputy Commerce Minister, Mr. Alongkorn Ponlaboot stated that visiting Myanmar and Malaysia would help expand trade and investment cooperation with Thailand.

Mr Alongkorn voiced that, apart from tightening the relationship with the neighboring countries, his visit to Myanmar and Malaysia had also lead to the negotiation on trade and tourism. He added that Myanmar had shown signs of cooperation in which they had surveyed trade routes and jointly agreed to improve border trading in all checkpoints. They also agreed with Thailand to organize the meeting of trading committee after the meeting was unorganized for 5 years. Further, Thailand and Myanmar had reached an agreement in establishing the Thailand-Myanmar business council with the objective to bolster the border trading cooperation and further business discussion in the future.

Regarding his visit in Malaysia, Mr Alongkorn had attended the meeting with the government and private sectors in the country. As a result, Malaysia had paid interest in expand trading channels by which 5 states of North Malaysia and 5 southern provinces of Thailand would together run the business in five branches, including trade, investment, tourism, logistics and Halal industry.
