DIT assures sugar price at ceiling

BANGKOK, 24 December 2009 (NNT) – The Internal Trade Department confirms the price of sugar in market is at the ceiling price.

Director-General of Internal Trade Department, Ms Chutima Boonyaprapat stated the sugar price in the market at the moment was not over the ceiling price, set by Commerce Ministry at 23.50 THB per kilogram. She mentioned that the current volume of sugar was definitely sufficient for this year domestic consumption.

Consumers however were recommended of Hotline 1569 in case sugar was found to be overpriced. The informant would be rewarded by 25% of the fine, and the violator would be sentenced to seven years in prison and 140,000 THB fines, while a violator for over price selling would get five years jail term, 100,000 THB fines or both.
