BANGKOK, 25 January 2010 (NNT) – The Department of Export Promotion (DEP) will be promoting Thai products and restaurants in South Africa, during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Using the opportunity where there is an influx of people from around the world, especially football fans, Commerce Minister Pornthiva Nakasai said the purpose was to promote Thai food and strengthen the foundations for Thai food exports in the future.
The football fans expected during the World Cup in South Africa had high purchasing power. 32 nations, many of them developed countries, were represented in the final round such as USA, UK, Germany, France, South Korea and Japan, added Ms Pornthiva.
Since rice is the most important export product for Thailand, serving as South Africa’s main dish, market expansion will be sought to accompany Thai restaurants, as well as Thai spas and skin care, which are gaining popularity.
The ministry’s campaign to promote Thai exports in South Africa is held from June – July 2010.
