BANGKOK, 4 February 2010 (NNT) – The Electricity Generating Public Company or EGCO Group has prepared seven billion THB to invest in both foreign and domestic alternative energy power plants.
The Managing Director of EGCO Group Vinij Taengnoi stated that the company had a plan to invest about 4-7 billion THB within this year. The investment in foreign countries would focus on natural gas and lignite power plants at two sites in Indonesia and one in Philippines. In Thailand the investment in alternative energy power plants will be the 50 megawatt solar energy power plant in Lop Buri, with a budget of nine billion THB. Another is the wind energy power plant in Nakhon Ratchasima, with a capacity of 50 megawatts, worth 3-4 billion THB. There are other smaller water power plants in other areas as well to support the government’s policy of alternative energy and reducing green house gas.
Mr Vinij confirmed that the investment plan was still retained with the purpose to increase the production capacity by 1,000 megawatt, from 4,000 megawatt. He added that the joint investment of Nam Thoen power plant with Lao PDR of 970 megawatt would be in operation with electricity sold to Thailand this March.
