BANGKOK, 14 March 2010 (NNT) – Commercial banks have requested temporary suspension of their operations at 17 branches located in Bangkok from 15 March onwards owing to the mass rally of the anti-government United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), according to the Bank of Thailand.
Krung Thai Bank is closing its branches located on Ratchadamnoen Road, the Parliament, the Government House, and the Ministry of Defence. The Thai Military Bank has closed its branches at Sri Prathum University, Ratchadamnoen and Sua Pa Roads. The Siam Commercial Bank has closed its branches situated on Ratchadamnoen Klang. CIMB Thai Bank has closed its Ratchadamnoen branch on Din So Road.
The Bangkok Bank has closed its branches at Phan Fa bridge and the Office of the Civil Service Commission. The Bank of Ayudhya Public Company Limited has closed its three branches at Visuttikasat Intersection, Bang Lamphu and the Giant Swing (Sao Ching Cha). The Nakhon Luang Thai Bank requested the closure of its branches on Ratchadamnoen Road. The Standard Chartered Bank branches in Maha Nak and Ratchayothin areas are also closed today.
A total of 49 banks have been declared closed so far.
