BANGKOK, 14 March 2010 (NNT) – Jones Lang LaSalle, a global real estate services has predicted impact on tourism amid the demonstration by the supporters of the National United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD).
The Head of Jones Lang LaSalle’s Bangkok Office, Andrew Langdon stated the peaceful protests would only draw minor impact to the Thai tourism, and it would last for a short while. The situation will return to normal a week after the protest ends.
However, any violence during the protest would be unveiled by the foreign press. The firm estimated a huge impact on the industry as the drop in reservations could last for months after the end of the demonstration. The drop in reservation would reflect lower accommodation fee until the recovery is seen.
Mr Langdon added those tourist destinations linked by direct flights such as Phuket and Samui would have less impact than Bangkok as the demonstration was mainly held there.
