BANGKOK, 18 April 2010 (NNT) – The government is urged to take legal action against the pro-government group gathering at the Victory Monument, similarly to the anti-government United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD).
Opposition Puea Thai Party Spokesperson, Prompong Nopparit explained that the multi-color-clad group is defying the security law under the state of emergency by gathering more than five people.
A group of multi-color-clad people has been arranging daily gatherings in late afternoon at the Victory Monument to show supports to the Democrat-led government against the demand of the UDD for immediate house dissolution.
Mr Prompong said the multi-color-clad group had also blocked traffic. However, the government showed a recognition of the group by accepting their letter. He pointed out that the action could irritate those who oppose the government for the standard of law enforcement by the authorities.
Meanwhile, Democrat Party Spokesperson, MD Buranaj Smutharaks, called upon the government to make every effort to impede the attempt of the UDD to rally at Silom Road. He reasoned that national image would be tarnished because Silom is another important business district of Bangkok.
MD Buranaj also asked the government to prevent confrontations between the UDD and the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) for fear of great loss in case of clashes.
