SURAT THANI, 26 April 2010 (NNT) – Thai exports will not receive negative impacts from the ongoing domestic political demonstration as long as no blockade is made to international transport terminals, according to the Department of Export Promotion (DEP).
Speaking during a meeting on fruit exports in the southern province of Surat Thani, DEP Director-General Srirat Rastapana stated that her department has been boosting confidence of foreign business entrepreneurs in the wake of the persisting political demonstration.
Ms Srirat added that trade exhibitions in many countries were organized while close cooperation between the government and the private sector has been maintained. She said political rallies should have no effects to the export sector if logistics systems are not blockaded.
The director-general further stated that demand for Thai products from many countries remains high, especially for textiles, garments as well as automobiles. She said the DEP would try to protect national exports from being affected by politics because the sector is the main economic driving force.
