Energy Minister supports PM’s national reconciliation roadmap

BANGKOK, 4 May 2010 (NNT) – Minister of Energy Wannarat Channukul has expressed his opinions toward the five-point national reconciliation roadmap announced yesterday by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva that the proposal would be the best way out of the current political stalemate and could efficiently move the country forward.

Mr Wannarat, in his capacity as Bhumjaithai Party leader, stated that the proposal was constantly raised for discussion among the coalition parties and received full support from the meeting. He believed that it would be agreeable to and meet with satisfaction of all sides.

Mr Wannarat continued to say that the road map would help end the ongoing political turmoil while driving the country forward.

In regard to the proposed general election on 14 November 2010, Mr Wannarat said if the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) protestors accepted the proposal, Ruam Jai Thai Chat Pattana Party as well as other coalition parties would be ready to field candidates to the election.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister for Security Affairs Suthep Thaugsuban mentioned before attending the cabinet meeting that the roadmap had been specially formulated from all sides’ opinions to bring the current political situation to an end. However, he said the group of anti government protestors had not yet made their signs of response toward the proposal.

The five proposals in the national reconciliation roadmap as announced by Mr Abhisit include an enhancement for stronger unity of Thai people, protect the monarchy from being involved in the current political standoff, investigation into all government-UDD clashes by independent committees to give fact to the public, systematic improvement of public welfare, reformation of the media and the amendment of related laws including the constitution to get rid of all corruptions in the countr
