Bangkok, 31 May 2010 (NNT) – Even though much of the capital is operating normally and Bangkok’s airports are also fully functional, tourism industry is still at its weakest point after the political turmoil.
The Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) is now operating an additional office in order to help release tourism industry from damages from political crisis. This office is meant to be the center where affected entrepreneurs and freelance workers in tourism industry can present their losses and ask for additional helps from government.
A tour guide from a leading tour operator company, Diethelm Travel, Mr Thipakorn Chanthaem said that he had been strongly affected from the political situation since the beginning of the rally. He added that as a freelance tour guide, he had not received any job orders since April until now.
The violence outbreak and prolonged protest of the red shirt had caused many tourists and trade groups to postpone or cancel trips to Bangkok. Many tour operators and travel agencies had strongly been affected from the unstable political situation among the country. These people are hoping to receive supports from the government which would help them to get back to their normal lives.
Affected entrepreneurs and freelance workers in tourism industry can download the application forms and objectives of the program at www.thailandtourismcouncil.org. It will include questionnaire as well as spaces for affected people to define how government should do to assist them. For more information call 02-250-5500 extension 1646-8.
