BANGKOK, 11 June 2010 (NNT) – Sony has set a budget of 2.6 billion THB to invest in Thailand as its production base with over 1,000 Thai workforces expected to be employed, according to the Board of Investment (BoI).
BoI Secretary – General Atchaka Sibunrueng unveiled that the BoI had just approved a support to the Sony Technology (Thailand) Co Ltd for their investment expansion. Sony Technology is confident of Thailand’s capacity on suitable cost and skilled labour, the company then decided to move on with the investment in the production of digital camera, lens and digital camera’s components.
Sony’s investment value is 2.606 billion THB with the production capacity per year of 2.1 million sets of digital camera, 2.73 million sets of lens kit, and 2.2 million sets of components, with 2.48 billion THB of raw materials expected from domestic sources a year. This project is export-oriented, said Ms Atchaka Sibunrueng.
Sony Corporation, also has other production bases in China and Malaysia.
