BANGKOK, 18 June 2010 (NNT) – The Center for the Resolution for Emergency Situation (CRES) will summon 83 individuals and firms allegedly providing financial supports to illegal activities of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) during its recent protest.
CRES Spokesperson and Army Spokesperson, Colonel Sansern Kaewkamnerd, stated that the CRES meeting on 17 June 2010 resolved to investigate irregular financial transactions of 83 individuals and companies by setting up eight scrutinizing committees.
Colonel Sansern urged those 83 suspected people and companies to clarify and defend themselves with the committees from 18 June to 15 July 2010; however, the period could be extended based on the discretion of the scrutiny teams.
Regarding the possible revocation of the state of emergency in 24 provinces nationwide, the spokesperson said the military, police, and Ministry of Interior would evaluate the pros and cons of the Emergency Decree enforcement before presenting the result to the CRES and the cabinet respectively.
The cabinet is expected to decide whether the state of emergency should remain effective in the kingdom or not on 6 July 2010.
