BANGKOK, 17 January 2011 (NNT) – The Democrat-led government is ready to clarify budget disbursement for the restive South in case of a censure debate, according to Deputy Prime Minister overseeing National Security Suthep Thaugsuban.
Speaking at Government House on Monday, Mr Suthep voiced his confidence that the government had successfully reduced the number of violence and fatalities and prevented unrest perpetrators from spreading their influence into city areas.
The deputy prime minister uttered that the responsibility for the budget expenditure from 2004 to 2007 belonged to the administration of ex-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and other governments, not his party.
Mr Suthep continued to say that his government used only 18 billion THB per year to solve the southern unrest. He ensured his readiness to clarify and explain any details regarding the issue.
The opposition Pheu Thai Party is preparing to grill the government for the non-transparency in the use of over 100 billion THB of the national budget to solve the southern insurgency since 2004.
