BANGKOK, 20 January 2011 (NNT) – The Criminal Court has turned down the Department of Special Investigation (DSI)’s request to have Red Shirt core leader Jatuporn Prompan’s bail revoked, citing no violation of bail conditions.
Following DSI Director General Tharit Pengdit’s filing of a petition to the Criminal Court for annulment of Mr Jatuporn’s bail, the Court has decided to uphold its previous verdict, which was to allow temporary freedom for the terrorism suspect with certain conditions.
The Court saw no violation in Mr Jatuporn’s role in contacting ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra for a video link speech to the anti-government United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) during the gathering on 9 January this year; therefore, the DSI’s request for bail revocation was dropped.
However, a warning was directed to the UDD core leader for his ongoing criticism of the Thai judicial system. The Court demanded his respect for its judgment, reminding him that he was obligated to strictly abide by all bail conditions.
