BANGKOK, 14 March 2011 (NNT) – The Bank of Thailand (BoT) has voiced its readiness to help the Bank of Japan (BOJ) whenever requested after Japan was struck by an 8.9 magnitude plus several aftershocks and a tsunami attack.
BoT Governor Dr Prasarn Trairatvorakul stated that the BoT has already sent a letter expressing condolences to its Japanese counterpart upon the deadly disaster and voicing readiness to provide full assistances upon the BOJ’s request.
According to Dr Prasarn, the BOJ has informed the BoT that its headquarters and other offices were not damaged from the recent wrath of nature while the BOJ is still ready to grant loans and ensure liquidity in the system.
The BOJ has announced that it will inject 7 trillion Japanese yen or 85.8 billion US dollars into the Japanese financial system to lessen the concern that the quake will affect operation of financial institutions.
The BOJ has prepared 55 billion Japanese yen to 13 commercial banks in areas affected by the quake. It reaffirmed that the payment system in big financial institutions remains functional.
