BANGKOK, 23 April 2011 (NNT) – The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued a warning for summer thunderstorms expected to hit 52 provinces across Thailand from 23 to 26 April 2011.
According to the DDPM, 52 provinces in the northern, northeastern, central and eastern regions have been declared risk zones to powerful thunderstorms. Residents are warned of the severe weather, including torrential rainfall, windstorm, thunderbolt and hailstorm.
Residents are also advised against staying under big trees or near advertising billboards and electric poles during heavy rainfalls as they might be collapsed. In addition, they should carefully check their own accommodations in order to make sure that the places are in good condition and strong enough.
All officials at each provincial DDPM office have been assigned to inform villagers residing in the risky areas about the thunderstorm urgently as well as prepare necessary tools in order to aid victims in time
