Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva talking with related units on ICJ’s verdict

BANGKOK, 19 July 2011 (NNT) – Outgoing Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has convened a meeting of related units in response to the World Court’s temporary injunction ordering withdrawals of both Thai and Cambodian troops from the disputed areas around Preah Vihear Temple.

Heads of security units as well as related officials reportedly travelled to attend the meeting in unison at Thai Khu Fah building inside the Government House compound on Tuesday morning. The meeting has commenced since 9.00 hrs and so far has been going on.

Participants comprise Deputy Prime Minister overseeing Security Affairs Suthep Thaugsuban, Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, Army Commander-In-Chief General Prayut Chan-O-Cha, National Police Chief Police General Wichean Potephosree, National Security Council Secretary-General Tawin Pleansri, National Intelligence Agency Director Suwapan Tanyuwattana, and officials from the Foreign Ministry and the Council of State.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) on 18 July 2011 pronounced a temporary injunction against Thai and Cambodian troops occupying the 4.6-square-kilometer disputed zone around the Preah Vihear Temple ordering them to leave the area in order to avoid further border clashes and pave ways for bilateral negotiations.
