Award-Winning “The Cheer Ambassadors” Set For North American Premiere

All Sports Los Angeles Film Festival Selects “The Cheer Ambassadors” As Its Only Asian Film

08 November, 2012–  Bangkok-based film production company, A Single Production Company, is pleased to announce, “The Cheer Ambassadors”, will have its North American Premiere at the All Sports Los Angeles Film Festival on Saturday, November 10th at 6pm.

“The Cheer Ambassadors” is a documentary film that follows the amazing true story of the Bangkok University Cheerleading Team as they compete in the International Cheer Union’s (ICU) World Championships in Orlando, Florida, USA. The feature-length film is an examination of what it means to be an athlete and the deep bonds of friendship that form when a group of athletes from radically different socioeconomic backgrounds spend years living and training together. The film documents the unique relationship that developed between cheerleaders in the United States and Thailand, with each team inspiring and idolizing  the other. It is an inspiring, emotional story that will have you cheering for the underdog.

“It’s been a long journey since we started making this film two years ago, and I am very excited to have our North American premiere in the country that invented cheerleading. Cheerleading is the fastest growing sport in the world, with over 4,000,000 athletes cheering in more than 100 countries, but its home is the US and this is where the sport enjoys unparalleled support.”, said Jason W. Best, the film’s executive producer and co-founder of A Single Production Company, who will represent the film at the festival.

“As a filmmaker, I am very interested in the developing global culture. I was first drawn to this story because I thought it was interesting that a Thai team had achieved international fame for excellence in an American sport. What I realized while making the film was that one of the things that makes the team unique is the way Thai culture influences their style. Sure cheerleading is an American sport, but the things they do on stage are very Thai”, noted Luke Cassady-Dorion, the film’s director and co-founder of A Single Production Company.

“I grew up idolizing American cheerleaders. In high school, I would sneak out of bed at 4am to watch competitions on late-night ESPN TV. When I first competed in the US in 2009 it felt like the completion of something I have been working on my entire life and now for our story to appear in an American theater, I am beyond honored.” added Thapanont (Tae) Phithakrattanayothin , the film’s producer and a former cheerleader.

Pat Battistini, the festival’s director added “We are always excited to present a new angle on a sport we thought we knew everything about. Cheerleading has been an important part of of American culture for over a hundred years, and The Cheer Ambassadors shows that these young Thai cultural ambassadors are using it to build new friendships between nations. The culture exchange happening shows the future of this sport is worldwide.”
