Indonesian Minister of State Owned Enterprises Satisfied with Optimum Performance of Waskita Karya in the Benoa Bali Toll Road Project

Bali, Indonesia, Nov 22, 2012 – (ACN Newswire) – Dahlan Iskan, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, has expressed his satisfaction with results achieved in the construction of the Bali toll road. “I am satisfied with the optimum performance delivered in the construction of this toll road. We hope the Nusa Dua-Ngurah Rai-Benoa toll road will overcome traffic jams in Bali”, said Dahlan Iskan.
PT. Waskita Karya, a state-run construction company, is working on the construction of this first toll road ever in Bali, the Nusa Dua-Ngurah Rai-Benoa toll road worth 1,5 trilion Indonesian Rupiah. In working on this project, PT. Waskita Karya is entrusted by PT. Jasamarga Bali Tol, as the project procurement party, to work on section 2 (two) and section 4 (four).

The construction process has achieved 50% for package two and 78% for package four. This demonstrates the rapid progress of PT. Waskita Karya, which predicted that the toll road project would be completed in April 2013.

“We are extremely satisfied with progress in the construction of this Nusa Dua-Ngurah Rai-Benoa toll road. The current progress has exceeded the specified target. We expect the project to be completed on time or even faster than the deadline, so that it may soon be beneficial to the Balinese people,” said M. Choliq, President Director of Waskita Karya.

The two packages being worked on by PT. Waskita Karya consist of package two in the Benoa area above the shallow sea with the number of pilings totaling 3,048, which span 2,4 km, and package four with the number of pilings totaling 3,641, which extend to Benoa Interchange and span 2,2 km.

PT. Waskita Karya is a state-run construction company, which has been in operation since 1961. PT. Waskita Karya plays an important role in Indonesia’s construction projects, currently including the construction of Nusa Dua Bali toll road, Kualanamu Airport in Medan, Sahid Kuta Hotel in Bali, south terminal of Juanda Airport in Surabaya, and others. In addition to domestic projects, PT. Waskita Karya has also been entrusted to work on construction projects abroad, such as in Saudi Arabia.

The construction of the first toll road ever in Bali is also one of the largest projects handled by PT. Waskita Karya. This toll road construction is expected to enhance smoothness in traffic operations in Bali, which still encounter traffic jams, particularly in Bali’s tourism regions.

The uncontrolled growth of private transport, such as four-wheel drive vehicles, sometimes reaching 35 units per day, and the flow of tourist movement from one tourist attraction to another help trigger traffic jams in Bali’s regions.

“Traffic jams occurring in Bali are worsening. Therefore, it is necessary to make improvements to road infrastructure that may disentangle traffic jams. We, the provincial and district governments of Badung and Denpasar, support the Nusa Dua-Ngurah Rai-Benoa toll road construction project. Looking ahead, we expect construction projects to involve the local government, as in this toll road construction,” said I Made Mangku Pastika, Governor of Bali.

Furthermore, this toll road construction is also expected to be able to support the organizing of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2013 in Bali. This is in the light of Bali as the host of such a large event.

Ahead, with the public trust as one of the largest construction companies in Indonesia, PT. Waskita Karya shall always strive to become the leading company in its field by prioritizing high quality of construction and excellent performance.
