Kasit affirms readiness of Thailand to host 15th ASEAN Summit

PHUKET, 21 July 2009 (NNT) – Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya had assured ASEAN Foreign Ministers the readiness of Thailand to host the 15th ASEAN Summit in Phuket from 23 to 25 October 2009, according to ASEAN Department Director-General Vitavas Srivihok.

In his press conference today during the 42nd ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting (AMM), Mr Vitavas said the issues to be discussed in the 15th ASEAN Summit would include the attempt to empower people in the ASEAN region via education and human resources development.

Mr Vitavas added that ASEAN leaders would also confer about connectivity of ASEAN nations in the region while also serving as the link between the South and East Asia. In addition, the ASEAN Inter-Governmental Commission on Human Rights will also be launched during the Summit as well.
