Over 90,000 Buyers Attend Electronics Fair, ICT Expo

Popular Small-Order Zone Attracts More than 23,000 Buyers

Hong Kong, Apr 17, 2013 – (ACN Newswire) – The HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) and the HKTDC International ICT Expo, which ended yesterday, welcomed more than 90,000 buyers from around the world, up six per cent over the previous year. Some 3,250 exhibitors attended the two fairs, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).

Buyers came from 150 countries and regions. Apart from Hong Kong, the majority were from Australia, Brazil, the Chinese mainland, France, Germany, Taiwan, India, Japan, Korea, Russia, Turkey and the United States. Emerging market buyers recording double-digit increases included India (+10 per cent), Poland (+32 per cent), Russia (+10 per cent), South Africa (+15 per cent) and Thailand (+19 per cent). Such internationally known brands, chain stores, retailers and online stores as buy360.com and Light in the Box from the mainland, 100% Stores NZ from New Zealand, Amorn from Thailand, Kensington from the US, Lazada Indonesia from Indonesia, nTec from Poland, Ozon.ru from Russia, Taurus from Spain and the ITL Group from the United Arab Emirates took part in the fair.

New Buying Season

“The fairs successfully kick-started a new buying season,” said Benjamin Chau, Deputy Executive Director of the HKTDC. “The two fairs help boost business and capture opportunities all year.”

The Small-Order Zone featured more than 320 showcases and attracted over 23,000 buyers.

International in Scope

“Compared to similar trade fairs in the mainland, the Spring Electronics Fair is more international and more creatively implemented,” said first-time attendee Tao Shi, Vice President and Retail General Manager of buy360.com. Targeting the needs of its high-end consumers, Mr Tao indicated that buy360.com would focus on sourcing small, life-enhancing electrical appliances, adding that electronic healthcare devices offer great potential this year, given environmental problems on the Chinese mainland.

Mobile Accessories

Anees Mohamed, Commerce Department Manager of South Africa’s Impact Video, said that the country’s surging demand for mobile phones and tablet computers has accelerated accessories’ sales as well. The company’s purchasing budget has increased from US$250,000 to US$500,000, and Ms Mohamed said that she would be sourcing smart mobile phone accessories, including protective cases.

Mexhomok has 35 stores in Russia, specialising in mobile electronics devices and household appliances. Purchasing Manager Igor Makrushin anticipates a 10 per cent increase in sales this year, adding that he would be sourcing protective cases, chargers and kitchen appliances, products seeing enormous demand in Russia.
