ShareInvestor to Launch New Financial Education Portal Targeted at Young Investors in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Apr 18, 2013 – (ACN Newswire) – SI Portal.com Sdn Bhd, the subsidiary of ShareInvestor, the Singapore-based financial internet media and technology company, today launched a new portal targeted at educating tertiary students and young executives on the merits and importance of investing and financial planning.

www.younginvestors.com.my is designed as a one-stop portal where young investors can search for resources and information to get started early on planning their finances and building their wealth.

The portal is divided into the following main sections –

Articles – contributions from guest writers, including business reporters, investment analysts and financial professionals. They are written in plain, simple language that young novice investors can understand.

Case studies – using listed companies as real-life examples, the young investors will learn how to read financial statements and get familiar with terminologies used in these reports.

Dictionary – a comprehensive list of commonly used financial terms and terminologies used in financial analysis for stock selection.

Events – a listing of paid and free seminars and workshops dealing with topics on investment and financial planning.

A report commissioned in 2009 by Bursa Malaysia found that less than 2 per cent of Malaysians aged 20 years and above actively invested in shares although they are familiar with publicly listed company and share trading. Their perception is that share trading is a high-risk activity and this deters them from investing in shares. Instead, they prefer to invest in savings and fixed deposits which offer lower rate of returns.

According to a recent census report, youths between the ages of 20 and 29 years make up 19.3 per cent of the total population of Peninsular and Eastern Malaysia. They are generally well-educated and internet-savvy, and are keen to build-up their assets for the future. The portalwww.younginvestors.com.my seeks to serve this untapped segment by offering quality investor education programmes and services.

Mr Christopher Lee, Chief Executive Officer of ShareInvestor, said: “Today’s investors are getting younger, willing to read widely on the subject and are more internet savvy. We have forged alliances with reputable partners such as financial institutions and investor educators who share with us a common vision of promoting financial literacy. The result is a portal that will serve as a valuable one-stop shop for young investors, offering them timely, relevant and accurate news and information to make informed investment decisions, reflecting our company’s motto – ‘Invest with Knowledge’.”

In order to reach out to the youths, SI Portal.com will be partnering with some of Malaysia’s leading investment and personal development speakers to jointly organise a series of seminars at the top local universities. The young investors can look forward to learning first-hand from the experts and take their first step in making well-informed investment decisions.

Since March, SI Portal.com has partnered with Mr Jonathan Quek, the founder and CEO of True North Asia, who had presented two sessions on how young investors can build and grow a portfolio of financial assets over time. Visitors can log on towww.younginvestors.com.my for the latest speaking engagements and outreach activities.
