Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2013 Opens: Indonesia Exhibits Quality Value-added Exports

Jakarta, Indonesia, Oct 16, 2013 – (ACN Newswire) – The 28th Trade Expo Indonesia, held at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) in Kemayoran, Jakarta, was officially opened today by the Indonesian Vice President Boediono. “The TEI is a medium for the National Pride Campaign, contributing to a sense of pride in Indonesian product, as well as an appreciation of homeland. Let’s show the world that Indonesian products are quality products, products with added value and products that are highly competitive,” said Boediono.

“The presence of buyers and trade delegations from over 100 countries shows that the TEI is widely recognized as an international exhibition. We must take advantage of the event to build trade relations, which affect Indonesia’s position in the global marketplace, as a country developing dynamically, as increasingly competitive,” added Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan after the opening ceremony.

TEI 2013, taking place from October 16 to 20, shows best examples of Indonesia’s exports from 1,300 exhibitors. Nearly 8500 people from 105 countries are registered to visit the Expo. “From the number of participants and significant buyers this week, we expect the target of USD 2 billion in transactions will be achieved. For this reason we have chosen the theme ‘Trade with Remarkable Indonesia’, to give special attention to foreign buyers so that they would establish and improve trade relations with Indonesia,” said the Minister.

The exhibition consists of participants from various sectors, including 22% handicrafts, 20% furniture, 9% food and beverages, 8% textiles and textile products, 7% agro products, 6% services, 5% consumer goods, 4% automotive components, 4% leather and leather products, 3% fisheries, 3% household / electronics products, 2% sports equipment, 2% home decorations, 2% knockdown houses, 1% toys, 1% strategic industries and 1% industrial building materials.

During Trade Expo 2014, the Ministry of Trade, as event organizer, will receive more than 50 Trade Missions from around the world. Ten Trade Missions are bringing from 30 to 100 buyers each, including Nigeria, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, India, South Africa, USA, Bangladesh, Australia, South Korea and Japan.

Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan said that the awarding of Primaniyarta awards to Indonesian exporters at the opening of the TEI by the Vice President was an important element. Primaniyarta awards this year were classified into four categories, namely High Performance Exporter Category, Global Brand Developer Category, Export SMEs Category, and Pioneer to The New Market Category.

“These awards are a form of appreciation from the Government to exporters that have marketed their best products to the world. We hope these awards motivate other exporters to continue to create and innovate,” explained the Trade Minister.

In short, TEI is a medium to build Indonesia’s image as a strong and creative business nation that is capable of providing professional services, while at the same time consistently producing high quality products, while preserving local wisdom.

The Primaniyarta awards also demonstrate that Indonesia has not only an abundance of natural resources, but potential and professional human resources as well. This explains why, added the Trade Minister, the Ministry of Trade is working together with the National Board for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Overseas Workers (BNP2TKI) in promoting Indonesia’s professional service workforce to labor markets worldwide.

Furthermore, TEI 2013 as a Business-to-Business oriented expo is a strategic media with which to build Indonesia’s image as a formidable nation of strong commercial and creative professionals, which is able to provide professional services as well as high-quality export products, while preserving and developing local wisdom.

Trade Minister Gita concluded that consistency of holding the annual TEI, even as economic difficulties appear in a growing number of countries worldwide, shows Indonesia takes its role in an increasingly competitive international marketplace seriously. The numbers of buyers present at TEI 2014 demonstrates that Indonesia as a supply chain source country is taken into international account in a transparent and globally competitive market.

TEI 2013 is also organizing a series of exhibitions including Jakarta Fashion Week 2014, which will be held on October 17 – 25, preceded by Buyers Room activities on October 17 – 19 at Senayan City, Jakarta, the Yogyakarta Trade Expo 2013 on October 18 – 22 in Yogyakarta, and the Bali World Seafood Show, to be held on October 22 – 23 at the Bali International Convention Centre, Nusa Dua Bali.
