AIPA member to meet ASEAN Secretary General

PATTAYA, CHON BURI, 3 August 2009 (NNT) – The 30th ASEAN Inter Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) meeting has begun while AIPA members are scheduled to meet ASEAN Secretary General Dr. Surin Pitsuwan this evening.

This afternoon, Thai House Speaker Chai Chidchob, in his capacity as the AIPA Chairman, chaired the meeting of the AIPA executive board. Before the meeting commenced, there was a one-minute silence in mourning for the death of former Philippines President Corazon Aquino. The meeting began with the focus on the acceptance of Brunei Darussalam as a new AIPA member. Several working bodies would be established at the meeting as well.

According to the schedule, this evening there would be a discussion between AIPA representatives and ASEAN Secretary General Surin Pitsuwan.
