BANGKOK, 29 September 2009 (NNT) – Bangkok’s Department of Drainage and Sewerage has assured readiness to deal with approaching typhoon Ketsana projected to enter Thailand on Wednesday.
The department’s director, Chanchai Witoonpanyakij, said that his department was ready to deal with typhoon Ketsana’s effects on the capital, projected to take place on Tuesday and Wednesday. Authorities and additional manpower have been prepared to assist any needed operations such as flood or emergency situations. All waterways are currently being drained to their minimum to take on additional water from predicted heavy rains and drainage systems have been prepared for the influx.
Mr Chanchai admitted that most concerns was focused towards the center of the city, which was not equipped with power drainage systems and might experience a level of flooding. Authorities have been tasked with overseeing the area and the department warns residents using Kanchanapisek road and Petchkasem roads.
