Banharn urges speedy probe on Bhumjaithai bomb attack

BANGKOK, 25 June 2010 (NNT) – Ex-Prime Minister and incumbent Chart Thai Pattana Party Chief Advisor Banharn Silapa-archa has urged relevant officials to hastily bring conclusion to the probe on the recent bomb attack near the Bhumjaithai Party Headquarters.

Chart Thai Pattana Spokesperson Watchara Kannikar stated that Mr Banharn had voiced his concern about the bomb attack near the Bhumjaithai Party office and had encouraged the related authorities to expedite their investigation into the case.

Following a rumor of the government’s involvement in setting up the bomb attack in a bid to extend the Emergency Decree, Mr Banharn pointed out that the credibility and the popularity of the government would be reduced unless the case was brought to an end as soon as possible.

The Chart Thai Pattana Chief Advisor also pleaded those behind the incident to stop instigating unrest while calling on the police to strengthen security measures at important places.

A fruit cart wired with a bomb was parked near the Bhumjaithai Party Head Office and exploded on 23 June 2010. One person, identified as Mr Anek Khunthod, was injured and was apprehended as a suspect. Two other bombers have also been arrested, namely Mr Kampon Kamkong and Mr Dejpon Bhudjong.
