BoT confirms healthy financial status of Thailand

BANGKOK, 6 May 2010 (NNT) – Bank of Thailand (BoT) Governor, Dr Tarisa Watanagase, has confirmed that Thailand’s financial status still remains healthy, although there are concerns about the public’s declining confidence as a result of the persisting domestic political standoff.

After presiding over the Money Expo 2010 at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center on Thursday, Dr Tarisa stated that political factors may play a role in affecting public confidence. However, the global economy is improving and Thailand’s financial status is in good condition.

The governor added that the BoT has asked the Thai Bankers’ Association to help assist entrepreneurs affected from the UDD rally, while assistance could be in forms of debt restructuring.

The Money Expo 2010 event is an attempt to boost confidence in economic stimulation and is estimated to create a circulation of 130 billion THB, said the governor, while many financial institutions are taking part in the event with promotions to attract customers.

The Money Expo 2010 will be organized from 6 to 9 May 2010 at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. More than 200 booths from public and private financial institutions are displayed in the event.
