BTS pink line construction approved

BANGKOK, 28 March 2010 (NNT) – The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) has proceeded with its plan to construct the 34.5-kilometer pink line skytrain after the project was approved by the MRTA board.

MRTA Deputy Governor Chukiat Photayanuwat said the pink line construction was initiated by the Commission for the Management of Road Traffic chaired by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva. The new skytrain route will be constructed to facilitate the Chaeng Wattana Government Center.

Mr Chukiat stated that the MRTA would request the Bureau of the Budget for a budget for feasibility studies, design, and terms of reference documents. The MRTA expects that it can find the project’s consultant in 1-2 months.

The pink line is expected to have 24 stations, passing Khae Rai, Pak Kret, Chaeng Wattana, Lak Si, Viphavadi-Rangsit, Phahonyothin, Ramintra and Minburi.

The BTS pink route is worth 40 billion THB.
