Cabinet approves the MOU between ASEAN and Korea on transport cooperation

BANGKOK, 2 December 2009 (NNT) – The Cabinet endorsed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Transport Cooperation between ASEAN and Korea.

The Cabinet approved the proposal of the Transport Ministry, to sign the MOU on Transport Cooperation between ASEAN and Korea. The Foreign Ministry would provide the letter authorizing the Minister of Transport to endorse the MOU or any adjustment in details if needed.

The MOU covered all aspects of transportation including land/air/and sea transportation, transport facilitation, information and experience exchanges, human resource development, academic cooperation and any others as agreed by two sides.

The MOU would be effective from the day of signing and last five years. Thereafter it would be automatically extended for another five years if no request for cancellation was raised by any of the parties within 30 days. The responsible agencies are the ASEAN Secretariat and the Ministry of Land Transport and Maritime Affairs of Korea, with ASEAN Senior Transport Officials following up on the project implementation.
