BANGKOK, 17 April 2010 (NNT) – Democrat Party Chairman of Advisory Committee and former Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai is ready to lead the Democrat legal team to counter an allegation of 258 million THB donations for an election campaign.
Mr Chuan was tipped to head the party’s defense, but the consideration will be made upon the party’s working group on legal affairs. The confirmation will be made on 20 April.
Defending strategies should be shaped with the help of the former Party Leader Banyat Bantadtan and the Party Secretary-General Pradit Phataraprasit, who successfully ended the past disbandment case, according to Mr Chuan.
Meanwhile, the Democrat MP for Phatthalung Nipit Intarasombat said he had regained morale according to Mr Chuan’s statement, mentioning that the selection of the working group was open for any suitable persons.
The ruling Democrat Party is alleged of illegally receiving donation of 258 million THB from TPI Polene Plc, Thailand’s giant cement manufacturer, and misusing supporting budget of 29 million THB granted from the Election Commission for political development. The 2007 Constitution forbids political parties from receiving any donation worth more than 10 million THB.
