SI SA KET, 25 November 2009 (NNT) – The Commerce Minister today visited customs checkpoints and trade activities on the Thai-Cambodian border following a misunderstanding between the two governments that began earlier this month.
The Commerce Minister, Ms Pornthiva Nakasai, traveled to Si Sa Ket Province to chair a workshop on the Thai-Cambodian trade situation and the opening of the agricultural market under the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (AFTA). The minister met with the commercial officer of the province, business operators from Thailand and Cambodia, the provincial governor and representatives from related agencies to discuss obstacles to trade activities.
The meeting sought to reduce formalities in trade and investment and discussed work plans between the two countries in 2010.
After the workshop, the Commerce Minister stopped at the customs point in Phu Sing District to check on trade activities. She was also scheduled to visit organic rice demonstration fields in the province on the same day.
