Commerce Ministry aims to achieve 14% export growth in 2010

BANGKOK, 12 December 2009 (NNT) – The Ministry of Commerce will draft national export strategies for the year 2010 with the private sector with the goal of 14% growth.

Permanent Secretary for Commerce Yanyong Puangrach stated Commerce Minister Pornthiva Nakasai will attend a meeting with relevant government units and the private sector to discuss the strategies for both domestic and international trades. Operational guidelines to promote Thai export are expected to be formulated.

Moreover, issues of concern such as volatile currencies, tax, and logistics will be raised during the meeting.

The ministry hopes that Thai export next year will grow at least 14% as the economies of Thailand’s important trade partners, including the US, EU, Japan, and ASEAN continues were improving. However, the ministry said it would stay vigilant for the Dubai crisis and the depreciation of dong currency which would definitely pose threats to Thai export if it was devalued further.
