BANGKOK, 20 July 2009 (NNT) – Director-General of the Department of Business Development Kanissorn Navanugraha declared that 3,628 corporations had registered new businesses in June, whereas 1,200 businesses were defunct.
Mr Kanissorn reported on the statistics of business registrations during June 2009, showing 3,628 new businesses having been launched nationwide, which decreased 4.22% from the same period in 2008. The number can be divided into 1,141 businesses in Bangkok and 2,187 businesses in other provinces with an overall authorizing capital worth approximately one billion baht. 19,387 businesses were registered in the first half of 2009 or 13.18% lower than the previous year due to the economic downturn.
Meanwhile, 6,132 businesses were defunct in the first half of 2009 while contractor, real estate, and service businesses had the highest rate of termination. As a result, 547,736 businesses presently remain under registration with the Department of Business Development.
