CPI for May 2010 rises by 3.5%

BANGKOK, 1 June 2010 (NNT) – The Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Thailand for May 2010 stood at 107.87, increasing by 3.5% year-on-year due to higher prices of oil, seasonal agricultural crops, fruits, and food products.

According to Permanent Secretary for Commerce Yanyong Puangrach, the national inflation rate has been rising continuously for eight consecutive months (October 2009-May 2010). The rate has increased by 0.20% when compared with the previous month.

The average CPI for the first five months (January-May) of this year has expanded by 3.6% year-on-year.

Mr Yanyong reported further that the national core CPI for May 2010, excluding fresh food and energy, stood at 103.51, a 1.2% increase from the same month in 2009 and 0.06% increase from April 2010.

The average core CPI for the first five months has expanded by 0.6% year-on-year.
