BANGKOK, 30 May 2010 (NNT) – The government’s Center for the Resolution of the Emergency Situations (CRES) has agreed to rescind the curfew in Bangkok and 23 other provinces as normalcy has returned to the country, according to the Prime Minister.
Speaking on his weekly talk show “Confidence in Thailand with Prime Minister Abhisit”, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva stated that the government has decided against extending a curfew imposed in 24 provinces since 19 May. The Emegency Decree will however remain effective. .
The curfew was activated in the capital and other parts of the country in a bid to facilitate the operation of security officers to restore peace following post-riot violence that broke out in several areas. Prime Minister Abhisit added however, that despite the discontinuation of the curfew authorities would closely monitor and evaluate the overall situation before the revocation of other security laws
