Current political tension will not stall Thailand’s exports

BANGKOK, 22 March 2010 (NNT) – The country’s export figures will not be affected by the current political situation, according to Ms Malee Choklamlerd, Deputy Director General of the Department of Export Promotion (DEP).

Ms Malee had expressed her confirmation that although the anti-government rally of the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) protesters may be prolonged, it would not affect Thailand’s commerce especially in the export field. February’s export figures showed that national export grew by 23.1%.

Meanwhile, amid the current political upheaval, Ms Malee still believed that the export figure in March will reach the target of 14 billion USD as a result of the global economic recovery, higher demands of stock piling from the trading partner countries and the global acceptance of Thai products and e-commerce with Thai businesses, which require no travel.

Ms Malee continued to say that when the rally comes to an end, the national export this year could still reach the anticipated 14% growth target of the ministry.
