DSI to investigate Thaksin interview with Timesonline

BANGKOK, Nov 25 (TNA) – Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation (DSI) board will investigate an arm of Britain’s The Times of London as a special case due to its exclusive interview with ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and deemed as offensive to the monarch, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said.

Mr Suthep presided over a DSI board meeting Wednesday, saying the board agreed to be in charge of the case.

Mr Thaksin’s interview was carried on the website of Timesonline and referred to the sensitive subject of the monarchy, which might violate Thailand’s Internal Security Act under the Criminal Code.

“It is a sensitive issue which can affect the country’s security and order,” said Pol. Lt-Col Narat Sawettanant, DSI deputy chief.

Moreover, there may be people in several areas filing complaints with the police.

As a result, the board resolved that the DSI officials work on the case to effectively find the evidence and facts.

The board also agreed to investigate the theft in which a Thai worker stole precious jewellery from the palace of King Faisal of Saudi Arabia in 1989 as the case has ruined the relations between Thailand and Saudi Arabia, according to Col Narat.  (TNA)
